Frequently asked questions about vehicle inspection

What is vehicle inspection (ITP)?

Vehicle inspection, officially the periodic technical inspection (ITP), is the mandatory check of a car's technical condition. At an authorized station they check the brakes, steering, lights, emissions and other systems. Without a valid ITP you may not drive on public roads.

How much does vehicle inspection cost in Moldova?

For an ordinary car, the station fee is usually between 350 and 650 lei, most often around 450. Each station sets its own price, so it is worth ringing a few near you. On top of the fee you need the road tax paid and a valid RCA policy.

How often is the periodic inspection required?

For cars it comes down to age: those under 10 years old are inspected every two years, and those over 10 years old every year. Motorcycles are inspected every two years, while taxis, ambulances and buses go more often. Your exact date is on your inspection certificate.

What documents do I need at the ITP station?

At the station you identify yourself with your ID card or driving licence. The car details, road tax and RCA policy are checked electronically by the station, so you do not need to bring receipts. The car needs a fire extinguisher, first aid kit and warning triangle on board.
